Pioneer news

As the editor of my school newspaper, I found that the newspaper was no longer allowing students to engage with the school and community. So, in my junior year of high school, I created a pilot episode of what would become “Pioneer News.” The school board, superintendent, and principal permitted me to do so and so I began! Alongside my college courses and several extra curricular activities, I created, filmed, funded, wrote scripts, edited, directed, and so much more for the entire year. Every Friday, the high schoolers mandatorily watched the episodes and numerous community members tuned in to see what was going around the school that week.

Pioneer News now has a classroom and a course. Students enjoy watching the broadcast and have learned the art of broadcast film because of it.

Today, season eight continues.

Junior year, the superintendent approached me and asked me to help form a campaign for a new school. Sevastopol is over 100 years old and faced damages that were imperative to fix in concerns to the safety of the students. The school also was inaccessible to those with disabilities and as Sevastopol became named a blue ribbon school, we were expanding and over capacity. For weeks, we researched, photographed, and put videos together so the community to understand how important it is to get a new school.

Today, there is a new school.

As one of the few students with a camera and editing experience, I was also asked to take several senior photos and edit numerous senior videos.

SEVASTOPOL HIGH SCHOOL

Since a young age, I've been involved in numerous activities. I did everything from violin to swim team to Youth in Government to student council.

Around the age of 14, I began freelancing my photography and videography. For all the clubs I was in, I typically took pictures and put together some sort of collage.

Throughout time, word got around and locals began to hire me for weddings, family photos, senior photos, etc. Although Sevastopol didn’t offer these courses, I learned regardless.

As a peer mentor and class historian, I helped numerous students with their studies and learning the art of photography and videography.
